It's happening!

Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck appeared as the social media meme Capt. Andrew Luck, complete with Civil War-era uniform, on the Amazon post-game show Thursday night following the San Francisco 49ers' 30-12 victory over the New York Giants.

"The war is over," said Luck, who is attending Stanford, where he played prior to being selected No. 1 overall by the Colts in 2012. "We're onto greener pastures now in California. Life is quite good."

Luck, of course, correctly answered a question as part of a Cal-Stanford quiz show during his appearance.

Surely, now that Capt. Andrew Luck has confirmed it, everyone will believe Luck is completely retired from football, right?

Capt. Andrew Luck regularly sent missives to his "Dearest mother" (and more than 400,000 followers) during Luck's Colts career. The meme was a play on his neck beard. The account last posted May 22, but keep an eye out for a response.

Despite an exhaustive effort by IndyStar — two, actually — the creator of Capt. Andrew Luck remains unknown. (We did find the creator of a different Andrew Luck meme in 2016.) She/he did, however, respond anonymously to questions from IndyStar's Dana Hunsinger Benbow in 2019 via Twitter, including:

"Years ago, I came across a gallery of memes on a sports site. I can't recall the exact (site), maybe Deadspin, maybe SI, which featured pro athletes placed in historical periods of time," Capt. Andrew Luck's creator wrote. "One of them appeared to be Andrew Luck in the era of the Civil War. Being a fan of his and of history, I thought it may be funny to send 'letters' to his mother from the 'battlefield.' I began sending them to friends via texts until one suggested I start a Twitter account for the character. And so I did."
